Keeping positive through Lockdown 3.0 – The Soul Spa

By Ben Carey on 23 January, 2021

With Lockdown 3.0 upon us, The Business Exchange is asking for your insights regarding coping strategies, new habits and how to stay positive throughout this third (and hopefully final) national lockdown.

Madeline Blackburn from The Soul Spa, which offers a range of meditation and mind-body therapies, shares her thoughts on breathing, focusing and adapting.

How are you keeping positive through Lockdown 3.0?

Lots of mental relaxation and breathing – I’m lucky, it’s my job!  I am also enjoying some online learning courses to keep myself interested and focused.

How are you structuring your day? Have you changed your habits?

I try to front-load the day with work so I can be more leisurely in the afternoons.  With no school run or commute, I find a have a bit more time than usual and more flexibility to fit work into different time slots.

Are you doing anything new?

I did a breathing course at the start of January which means I am committed to breathing exercises for 40 days. I get up at 6.30am every day to fit them in before home-schooling and work starts.

Have you changed your New Year resolutions?

I am trying to fully focus on one thing at a time, for around 30 minutes, instead of trying to do everything at once.  I have also resolved to accept the time that things take and go with the flow.

What are you most looking forward to when restrictions are lifted?

Seeing my mum.  She’s up north and we haven’t seen each other all year, apart from a brief meeting in the garden in the summer.

What is your biggest goal this year?

To keep The Soul Spa alive and keep reaching people who can benefit from what we offer.

What has the past nine months taught you and how has it shaped your future for the better?

I have learned so much about running a business, but I still have so much to learn.  I have tried to adjust again and again to the changes that have come my way, to keep creating new opportunities to respond to the needs of my members.  In many ways, this new online world suits the Soul Spa model perfectly and I am grateful for the opportunities that have arisen.
