With Lockdown 3.0 upon us, The Business Exchange is asking for your insights regarding coping strategies, new habits and how to stay positive throughout this third (and hopefully final) national lockdown.
South West agency Mintivo delivers corporate IT services for SMEs. Operations Director, Mark Adams, shares his thoughts on returning to the office and the changing face of business.
How are you keeping positive through Lockdown 3.0?
Lockdown 3.0 is by far the most challenging one for us all. Cold weather, dark days, post-Christmas and New Year blues. It’s a struggle for even the toughest of people.
Luckily Mintivo is a very positive place to work, we all support each other and the days pass quickly. Ensuring you take regular breaks away from your screen and having downtime is very important.
The vaccination programme is giving everyone some hope. Having that goal of getting back to the office/normality and knowing it is on the horizon is something to really focus on.
How are you structuring your day? Have you changed your habits?
Structure is incredibly important, especially for a creature of habit like myself! I set time aside during each day to exercise, read and of course, eat! I also make sure that meeting times are stuck to and do not over run.
Are you doing anything new?
Lots of decorating!
Have you changed your New Year resolutions?
I don’t believe in New Year resolutions and never make plans at the beginning of the year for change. I like more of a continuous development/improvement, so throughout the year if I want to make a professional or personal change, I will just do it!
Have you introduced any new rituals?
Daily exercise for 30 mins is probably the most important one. It really does make a difference. It lifts your mood and makes you feel energised and more focused.
What are you most looking forward to when restrictions are lifted?
Without a doubt, it will be getting back to the office and seeing everyone from #TeamMintivo again. Remote working is ok, but the office certainly has its place and is fundamental to maintaining your company culture.
Mintivo is a rapidly growing company and the office is the place where ideas and creativity are cultivated.
The only other thing would be the pub, I’m really looking forward to having a pint in a pub again!
What is your biggest goal this year?
Running a marathon.
What has the past year taught you and how has it shaped your future for the better?
I have learnt a lot about people and culture and what drives and motivates people. There has been a massive shift in the business world towards a more people centric workplace.
Communication, engagement and wellbeing in business are now becoming talking points in the boardroom. Breaking down barriers and creating a more open, honest and transparent organisation is going to be the key to becoming a successful business going forward.
