With Lockdown 3.0 upon us, The Business Exchange is asking for your insights regarding coping strategies, new habits and how to stay positive throughout this third (and hopefully final) national lockdown.
Dan Barfoot, Operations Manager at South West agency CMD Recruitment, shares his thoughts on taking breaks from electronic devices, listening to podcasts and ignoring those texts from Domino’s!
How are you keeping positive through Lockdown 3.0?
As an industry recruitment has certainly been hit but we work in a tough market, so we are pretty robust as it is. We stay positive by undertaking training, helping my team to improve themselves both professionally and personally, whilst we all support each other as one large family.
How are you structuring your day? Have you changed your habits?
I have a very structured day and I like to work to timings. One of the goals I have set myself is to try to ensure a complete 30-minute break from anything electronic at lunch. I am also reading two books a month for mental stimulation.
Dan’s Sprocker, Mollie.
Are you doing anything new?
I’ve started to listen to podcasts when walking my dogs as it helps me switch off a little and gives me some ideas for the business. Recent listens have been to Gary Vaynerchuk and Greg Savage.
Have you changed your New Year resolutions?
I think if anything I’ve decided I plan to be more self-disciplined and, in some ways, selfish with my time. In the past I have given a lot of time to things without even a thank you and time is important as we only have one life.
Have you introduced any new rituals?
Ignore Domino’s texts!
What are you most looking forward to when restrictions are lifted?
I’m looking forward to having my team all back together as I miss the banter. We have some strong individuals at CMD Recruitment and we laugh every day!
What is your biggest goal this year?
To get back to full fitness after two shoulder operations last year.
What has the past nine months taught you and how has it shaped your future for the better?
It has taught me to appreciate what you have, as within the click of a finger things can drastically change. Also, a simple phone call to check someone is ok can go a long way. Whilst we can look backwards, we shouldn’t; we can only control the future.
