Local redevelopment plans among issues raised at ‘Meet the MP’ event

Wera Hobhouse, Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Bath, has hosted a ‘Meet the MP’ event to chat to residents of Walcot and Lambridge wards about local issues.

Along with the Walcot Liberal Democrat councillor Oli Henman, Mrs Hobhouse welcomed a full house of local residents into Burdall’s Yard arts and community hub on the evening of 13th February. She took questions about issues in the area that were of great concern for the community, ranging from the war in Gaza, the housing crisis and tactical voting, to environmental issues, and the planning applications for a new LIDL supermarket and a redeveloped Bath Rugby stadium.

The Bath MP promised to follow up on the points raised in the discussion, by offering private surgery appointments to further explore how she could help on specific issues, or liaising with the B&NES council officers as appropriate. She also committed to raising questions around Gaza in the House of Commons.

More ‘Meet the MP’ conversations are planned over the coming months and details of the next event will be published soon.

Hobhouse urged as many people to attend as possible and encouraged those who seek one-to-one support on local issues to come along to her personal surgeries held on Friday afternoons at her James Street West office.

She said, “I was thrilled that so many Walcot and Lambridge residents came to discuss the issues that matter to them on Tuesday. It was great to connect with so many of my constituents and hear their thoughts on a variety of subjects.

“I encourage all local residents to come along to my next community meet-up in their area. It is a great opportunity to ensure your voice is heard so that I can use your concerns to guide my work in Parliament. I would love to meet as many people there as possible in the future.”
