Brothers Drinks Co. reveals ambitions for new community experience at Kilver Court

By Nick Batten on 29 November, 2021

Kilver Court in Shepton Mallet, which was recently purchased by the Showering family, founders of the Brothers Drinks Co., will be transformed into an interactive culture destination for locals and tourists in the area following its recent acquisition.

The business has already begun planning around the site with hopes to open next year. Situated adjacent to the Showerings Cider Mill, the purchase of Kilver Court increases the business’ footprint to 38 acres, reinforcing the company as the biggest employer in the Shepton Mallet area.

This latest move is part of the company’s ambitious plans to create an overall experience and destination for the local community and visitors to engage and learn more about the heritage of the site, as well as the historic Somerset ciders, including Brothers Cider and Mallets Cider.

To celebrate the news and kickstart the festive season, Kilver Court will be hosting its inaugural Pop-Up Christmas at Kilver Court in aid of the National Bereavement Partnership. From the 9 – 10th December 9am- 5.30pm, guests will be able to visit and shop from a wide selection of local, high-quality fashion, interiors, jewellery and food gifts. Exhibitors will include Temperley London, Jigsaw, Pearl Lowe, Pippa Small Jewellery, Coco & Wolf, MAKE skincare plus many others. There will also be a selection of Brothers’ ciders including the delicious mulled Toffee Apple available for guests to sample and purchase. The Kilver Court Gardens will be open for the duration of the Pop-Up Christmas between 10am-3pm.

Commenting on the recent announcement, Matthew Showering said, “Shepton Mallet is an integral part of who we are as a family and a business, so we are incredibly proud to have had the chance to come back to Kilver Court. The Ship Inn, which forms the front of the site, was purchased in 1854 by Francis Showering. Our grandfather, Herbert Showering, purchased the rest of the site in 1938. It is from there our family’s business grew, aided by the success of Babycham, into a major drinks business.

“We see this as an incredible opportunity to harness our roots and heritage to provide the local community, as well as visitors to the area, with an authentic and unique experience. We have strong ambitions for our destination, both for the business and for the area, and are looking forward to welcoming visitors to Kilver Court to have fun, and to learn more about this incredible site’s history.”

Kilver Court is a historic house, office complex and spectacular gardens in Shepton Mallet, owned by Showerings Limited until the early 1990s. Most recently, it has been run as a retail and leisure destination, receiving over one hundred thousand visitors on average a year. The destination is currently home to a premium shopping experience with brands such as Mulberry, Toast and Yves Delorme.
