AM to PM is your exclusive insight into the busy schedules of some of Bath and Somerset’s top professionals.

Matt Paish is one of the Directors of Jooka, a video production company based at The Glove Factory in Holt. The company has worked on high profile campaigns throughout the UK for clients including The Duke of York, Thames Water, SouthGate Bath and VisitBath.

What time do you get up?

The alarm is usually set for 7.15am, unless we have a video shoot in which case it can be as early as 4.30am, depending on where we’re travelling to.

What helps you to get your day off on the right foot?

Coffee and homemade granola!

What’s the first thing you do when you get on location for a shoot?

We’ll usually have a recce if we haven’t already done one. This means taking a good look around to make sure we can get the best out of the location. The things we look out for are interesting colourful spaces, natural light and low noise levels. Getting all three can often be a challenge!

What helps your day run smoothly?

For a shoot day: our call sheet. This is a document we create for every shoot. It has the information we need for things to run smoothly such as client contacts, location addresses, schedule timings, scripts, storyboards, production notes, etc. For an office day: the cafetière.

What’s your favourite place to go for lunch?

We’re no strangers to Boston Tea Party in Alfred Street, Bath. It’s a great place to meet up with people and the food is always good.

What is the best part about your job?

Every week is completely different to the next. One week we can be filming at a tech hub in Manchester, the next we can be at a secondary school in London, or with athletes up at TeamBath.

How do you set yourself up for the following day?

If we have a shoot, then prepping our camera gear, charging batteries and preparing autocues is crucial. I also always try to clear my inbox by the end of each day – it makes a big difference the following day.

How do you unwind after work?

Cooking. I find preparing a meal can be a really good way to focus on something that isn’t work related when I get home.
