Members of the public are invited to attend a series of information sessions where they can find out more about the plans to refurbish Keynsham Leisure Centre.

Bath & North East Somerset Council is investing £10 million in transforming the town’s leisure centre into a modern and dynamic leisure facility aimed at motivating more people to get more active more often.

The plans for the centre were produced following feedback from residents and include an improved sports hall, refurbished swimming pool with viewing gallery, a new teaching pool, separate male and female wet change areas as well as enhanced gym facilities and new soft play area.

The information sessions will take place at Keynsham Leisure Centre on the followings days:

Wednesday 12 July, 2pm-4pm
Thursday 13 July, 5pm – 7pm
Friday 14 July, 9.30am – 11.30am

Bath & North East Somerset Council is working in partnership with charitable social enterprise GLL, which operates the Council’s leisure centres under the Better brand. Staff from the Council and GLL will be on hand to discuss the refurbishment.

Councillor Martin Veal (Conservative, Bathavon North), Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “We know that the leisure centre is very important to the people of Keynsham, who have provided us with a great deal of feedback, helping us to shape the plans.

“Our aim is to ensure we have great facilities at Keynsham Leisure Centre and this will encourage more people to get active more often, particularly those who don’t currently use the centre. We hope these information sessions will give local people more information on about the refurbishment and we look forward to welcoming them.”

The proposed enhancement of Keynsham Leisure Centre includes:

  • An improved sports hall
  • Refurbished main pool
  • Enhancement of the current pool viewing gallery
  • New soft play area
  • New and improved changing spaces
  • New studio spaces
  • An enhanced fitness suite
  • Retaining the current squash courts

General Manager for Keynsham Leisure and Sports Centre, Steve Williams, said: “Better is really looking forward to supporting the Council in the development of Keynsham Leisure Centre and is excited to discuss the plans with all our customers and the wider local community.”

The refurbishment is expected to get underway in the coming weeks with work carried out in phases so that the centre can remain open wherever possible.
