An energetic employee from Epoch Wealth Management in Bath has completed a gruelling trek through the Peruvian Andes to raise money for sick children.
Mel Gogarty spent a week trekking through remote mountains on the Lares Trail to reach the iconic “lost” city of Machu Picchu in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Mel endured daily treks lasting up to 10 hours and head-spinning high altitudes of more than 4,800 metres above sea level to complete her challenge.
Her herculean efforts have raised more than £600 for CLIC Sargent which provides specialist support to young cancer sufferers and their families.
Mel’s epic trek is the latest in a series of charitable endeavours by staff at Epoch which gives a percentage of its annual profits to good causes each year. This year’s beneficiaries will include Bath Samaritans and St Margaret’s Hospice Care.
“It was an amazing but gruelling experience,” said Mel who is an administrator at Epoch. “The high altitudes made it tough going at times but the scenery was spectacular and it was all for a very worthwhile cause.
“A friend’s niece was recently diagnosed with leukaemia and the family has received fantastic support from CLIC Sargent, which is why I decided to help raise money for this great charity.”
