Civica supports ‘Byte Night’ with fundraising abseil

By Nick Batten on 27 September, 2017

Members of the team at Bath-based software firm Civica recently abseiled off the Spectrum building in Bristol to raise money for Byte Night, a national sponsored sleepout, to help ensure vulnerable young people across Bristol and the South West “have a safe and loving place to call home.”

Tony Hughes, product strategy director and Byte Night co-chair for Civica UK, said, “Byte Night is so much more than spending a night on the streets to raise money and awareness. Companies across the UK have undertaken many fundraising events off their own bat and I’m proud to say Civica is no exception.

He explained, “It was someone’s bright idea to abseil down our iconic office building in Bristol and the team were really brave in pretty wet and windy conditions. It was heart-stopping but it was the young people which Byte Night provides critical support for that matter and who we kept front and centre in our minds as we took on this challenge. We’ve also managed to raise £2,000 which is just fantastic and we’re so grateful for everyone who supported us.”

On 6 October 2017, more than 100 people, will be sleeping out in the Millennium Square in Bristol as part of Byte Night which is taking place in ten cities across the country.

Byte Night 2016 raised over £1.2 million, with more than 1,200 people sleeping out on one night across the UK. If you would like to find out more about Byte Night or register to take part this year, visit bytenight.org.uk or contact the Byte Night team on bytenight@actionforchildren.org.uk
